Joeri Ista, Roosendaal 1999. Multidisciplinary artist based in Breda.

As an artist, I work with various media to portray stories that are close to me. The viewer is invited into the world full of uncertainty, processing trauma and manifestation.

My works are mainly based on the space around me. This environment and the feelings that accompany all the stimuli and inspirations of contemporary life. Such as dealing with childhood trauma, uncertainty about housing and manifestation are often bundled into surrealist pencil works varying from small to large, ceramic sculptures and written text. These often arise from collections of photos, thoughts and archive material that are bundled into a whole. Here I like to play with the fragmentary aspect by distorting the whole, adding or removing parts to showcase my perception of figuring out life.

In addition to my autonomous work practice, I am also sharing my knowledge about printmaking by giving workshops as an guest teacher and organising events as well as dj’ing, where I’m searching for the fine line between art and the nightlife by intergrating art in the going out experience.
