In between personalities
2024 - 2026‘’In between personalities’’ is a personal search within the mental space between past and the future, between movement and disorientation. It’s a reflection on the person that you’ve been before and that what you would like to become. The series of works exist out of colored pencil drawings, ceramics and a soundscape build out of rhythms of the 4-takt motorsounds of a scooter. Together these elements form an installation where memories and physical experiences come together.
The starting point for the series originates from the nightly scooter rides in the Brabantse Polder landscapes. The scooter functions as a symbol for autonomy and movement where repetition is a recurring phenonomen. During these scooter trips my view was often blocked by surpassing traffic which caused the environment to light up causing temporary blocking my view in the darkness. That phenonomen reflected on the feeling of that time literal and mentally and became a fundament for the works.
Using a point and schoot camera I document both myself and the surroundings. The photographic images do not functions as direct registration but rather as fragments of an experience which only lets you capture partly. From these documentation drawings emerged in which observation and memories start begin to overlap resulting in alienated images. Within the works I tried to get a grip of of an fase where identity and the future are constantly shifting while it leaves an open space for the elusive, just that that what we’re not able to name or understand but is still deeply felt.
